Did you know you are four times more likely to be involved in a car accident if you use a cell phone while driving? Cell phone use is the leading cause of accidents caused by distracted drivers. In Texas, texting while driving is illegal, and many cities have banned all forms of cell phone use while driving. April is Distracted Driving Awareness Month, so do your part to help End the Streak of roadway fatalities in Texas by avoiding all distractions while driving.

Most common distractions:
  • Texting or using a cell phone
  • Eating or drinking
  • Talking to passengers
  • Using a navigation system
  • Changing the radio station
Avoid distractions before getting on the road:
  • Set your phone to “Do Not Disturb” mode and put it out of reach
  • Set all adjustments such as the radio station ahead of time
  • Pull over to read directions
  • Stay focused on the roadway and surrounding traffic
  • No daydreaming — always be an active and engaged driver physically and mentally
